183 Palestinians to be freed in fourth round of Hamas prisoner swap
Hamas announced on February 1 that 183 Palestinian prisoners would be released. These include 18 life prisoners, 54 people sentenced to heavy prison sentences, and 111 Palestinians arrested after October 7, 2023. Seven people are also expected to be deported from Palestine.
Among the prisoners to be released are 54 from the Fatah movement, 8 from Hamas, 6 from Islamic Jihad, 2 from the Popular Front, and 2 from the Democratic Front.
The process is being carried out as part of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas. Under the agreement, 33 Israeli and more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners will be released within the first 42 days. In the first three phases, 400 Palestinian, 10 Israeli and 5 Thai prisoners were released.
