February 4, Middle East - The Palestinian Authority (PA) has told the United States it is ready to take action against Hamas to regain control of Gaza. Reuters reports that the sector is planned to be governed by a special committee.

Abbas's administration plan

Senior PA official Hussein al-Sheikh reportedly presented the plan to US officials at a meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, attended by Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Under the plan, the Gaza Strip administration would be led by Ziad Abu Amr, a US citizen and Palestinian Authority Deputy Prime Minister who is known for opposing funds for the reconstruction of the strip during the 2014 Gaza war.

The American administration has expressed doubts about the ability of Abbas' regime forces to fight Hamas, insisting that Abbas needs external military support.

In addition, Donald Trump's lack of direct relations with the Palestinian Authority is worrying Abbas' leadership.

Since December, Abbas' administration forces have stepped up attacks against Palestinian resistance fighters in the Jenin refugee camp.
