China invites Taliban to SCO summit
China's ambassador to Kabul, Zhao Xin, has invited the Taliban government in Afghanistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
Ariana News reported that the proposal was made during a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for Finance and Administration Mohammad Nayim. Initially, Zhao Xin stressed that China attaches great importance to expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening relations with Afghanistan.
In response, Muhammad Nayim also expressed interest in the proposal, emphasizing the importance of neighborly relations: "China and Afghanistan are neighboring countries, and maintaining positive relations between neighbors is important for both sides."
For your information, Afghanistan has been an observer member of the SCO since 2012, but has not been actively participating since 2021. It was not invited to the 2024 summit in Islamabad.
It should be noted that the 25th SCO summit will be held in China this year. It will discuss issues such as food security, energy, environmental protection, and the fight against terrorism.
