Columbia University expels students who want freedom for Palestine
Columbia University in the US has expelled several students who participated in a protest in support of Palestine last year.
As you may recall, in October 2024, a group of students gathered at the university's historic Hamilton Hall to criticize the institution's ties to Israel and demand that the administration change its position on these issues.
Four months after these events, Columbia University President Minush Shafik resigned from his position. The decision was made following protests at the university over the Gaza war.
Today, the new leadership has maintained its old position on this issue, as can be seen in the harsh punishments being applied to students.
Some students have now been suspended, while others have had their diplomas temporarily revoked. The university's disciplinary board notified students of the sanctions by email. The exact number of students sanctioned has not been disclosed.
