Europeans declare boycott of American products
A mass boycott of American products is spreading rapidly in Europe and Canada in response to Donald Trump's trade war. Thousands of consumers in the region have abandoned US products and switched to supporting local producers.
Netizens are sharing lists of alternatives to American products. Activists have also suggested replacing popular American brands such as McDonald's, Levi's, and WhatsApp with local counterparts.
As a result, sales of Elon Musk's Tesla electric cars in the European market have fallen by 45%. According to France 24, the new French messenger is adding 200 new users a day, as many abandon the US WhatsApp and X platforms.
Norwegian company Haltbakk Bunkers announced that it had stopped supplying fuel to US Navy ships, while Danish retailer Salling Group began marking European products in its stores with a special black star to distinguish them.
Google searches for "boycott the US" have spiked in Luxembourg, Denmark, France, Sweden and Canada, where Ontario Premier Doug Ford has canceled a multi-million dollar contract with Elon Musk's Starlink company and banned American companies from signing new contracts.
