Senegalese President Bassirou Diomai Fay made a significant announcement in his New Year's address. He said that starting in 2025, all foreign military personnel in the country would be expelled.

"I have instructed the Minister of the Armed Forces to propose a new cooperation doctrine in the field of defense and security. This doctrine includes the end of the military presence of all foreign countries in Senegal from 2025," Fay said.

In his speech, the President emphasized that Senegal views all international partners as friendly and borderless strategic partners.

Also on November 28, Fay stated: "The presence of foreign military bases in a sovereign state is unacceptable."

Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko also expressed his opinion on the possibility of closing French military bases in May 2024.
