Israel attacks WHO delegation in Yemen
Yesterday's Israeli airstrike on Yemen's Sanaa airport posed a serious threat to the World Health Organization (WHO) delegation. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was at the airport at the time of the attack.
Gebreesus said that the attack resulted in damage to his team, one crew member was injured, and at least two people were killed in the airport area.
"The air traffic control tower, flight deck, and runway sustained significant damage," he said in a statement.
A WHO delegation was visiting Yemen to assess the medical and humanitarian situation. Ghebreyesus expressed condolences to the families of the victims but did not provide specific information on which forces were responsible for the attacks.
Casualties among civilians
Israeli aircraft carried out attacks on the Sanaa airport area yesterday afternoon, resulting in civilian casualties.
The head of the WHO called on the international community to pay attention to the humanitarian situation in Yemen and reminded that any attacks violate international law.
