Massacre in Gaza, trade booms in Arab countries
Despite the ongoing bloody massacre in Gaza and the difficult situation of the Palestinians, a number of Arab countries are intensifying trade relations with Israel.
According to official data from the Egyptian Central Bureau of Statistics, the country's trade volume with Israel increased by 23% in 2024. Official Israeli sources, meanwhile, noted an increase in trade figures with Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates.
In particular, trade turnover with Jordan remained high, with exports to Israel increasing from $76 million to $109 million. Bahrain's imports from Israel increased sharply, from $8.1 million to $102 million, while exports doubled. While imports from Morocco decreased slightly, Israeli exports to this country increased by 30% to $95.5 million.
The UAE increased its imports from Israel by $450 million, the highest in the region, while Israeli exports to the UAE decreased by $132 million.
Most Arab officials have typically made tough statements about the ongoing war in Gaza and the dire humanitarian situation of the Palestinians. However, in practice, their trade relations with Israel are developing, rather than regressing.
