Passenger plane and military helicopter collide in Washington
Bodies of those killed in a collision between a passenger plane and a military helicopter in Washington are being pulled from the Potomac River. So far, 18 people have been confirmed dead.
The incident occurred over the river just minutes before the plane was due to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport. The collision sent debris from both aircraft into the water. Search and rescue efforts are being hampered by cold air and water temperatures.
The passenger plane was reportedly en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., with 60 passengers and four crew members on board. The military Black Hawk helicopter was on a training flight and had three service members on board.
While earlier reports said four victims had been rescued, the latest official figures suggest no one has been found alive.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
