Prisoners riot in Tajikistan
Convicts attacked guards at Correctional Facility No. 3/2, under the Main Department for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan.
According to official reports, nine inmates attacked prison staff with improvised weapons. Three guards were seriously injured in the attack.
In an attempt to restore order, the guards were forced to use firearms. As a result, three prisoners were neutralized and the rest were arrested.
Tajikistan's national news agency Khovar reported that the prisoners disobeyed the lawful demands of the institution's administration and attempted to escape. The attackers used sharp iron knives and improvised weapons.
The guards acted in accordance with the law and service instructions and brought the situation under control. The injured employees were provided with necessary medical assistance. Their lives are not in danger.
The institution is currently continuing to operate as usual.
