Romanian police have arrested Kelin Georgescu ahead of the second round of the presidential election, and have also searched the homes of people close to him.

Gheorgheescu won the election in the fall of 2024, beating the incumbent president. The Romanian Supreme Court later annulled the election results on frivolous grounds.

The Romanian prosecutor's office has filed six charges against Georgescu, which could carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
