Russia proposes DNA-based registration of migrants
A bill providing for the genetic registration of labor migrants has been submitted to the Russian State Duma. The initiative was put forward by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region, reports the "Parliamentary Gazette".
The authors believe that the creation of a single DNA database will facilitate the identification of foreigners, in particular, it will allow them to identify individuals who were previously expelled from Russia and tried to re-enter using forged documents.
These measures can also help combat crime and make the investigation process more effective in cases where a crime is committed and information about the suspect is not available, the report says.
According to the draft law, migrants will be required to undergo a medical examination and submit a biological sample within one month of entering Russia. All costs will be borne by the foreign citizen.
