Amid the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Swedish government has begun work to upgrade and strengthen the country's extensive network of nuclear bunkers, allocating 100 million kronor to protect citizens.

The Daily Mail reported that the country is preparing 64,000 nuclear shelters for emergencies and has issued warnings to 5 million homes. These shelters are designed to protect against blasts, radiation and chemical weapons.

"We are not at war, but we are far from saying that our peace is not threatened," Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in a statement. For this reason, the government has strengthened its "common defense" strategy. The project is planned to last two to three years.
