Trump signs executive order banning transgender people from serving in US military

Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had signed four executive orders aimed at introducing significant changes to the US military. The orders include banning transgender service members from serving in the armed forces, reinstating and paying soldiers discharged due to COVID-19 vaccination requirements, and overhauling the military's "diversity, equity and inclusion" programs.

Trump said the orders were signed during his return to Washington from Florida. It is also expected that the new Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, will play a key role in implementing these changes.

Trump first banned transgender service members in 2017, but Joe Biden lifted those restrictions in 2021. Now, a new executive order again restricts transgender individuals from serving, citing physical and mental health conditions.

The new orders also include eliminating "diversity and inclusion" programs at the Pentagon and additional measures to "orient the military toward efficiency."

These changes have sparked much debate. While Trump supporters see these steps as a return to the military's core mission, critics see them as a move against equality and human rights.
