US presents updated 60-day ceasefire plan to Hamas and Israel. Parties disagree
The United States, as a mediator, has presented new proposals for a temporary ceasefire to Israel and Hamas as part of its efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip. Hamas said it was carefully studying the proposals and Israel's response to them, but has already stressed that they do not meet its demands.
The US said that Israel had accepted a plan that, according to unofficial information, provided for a two-month ceasefire. Hamas, in its initial statement, focused on the Israeli response.
"HAMAS has received an official Israeli response to the proposal agreed upon last week with US Special Representative Steve Witkoff. Upon closer examination, it became clear that this response is essentially an attempt to consolidate the policy of occupation, executions, and starvation even during a period of temporary de-escalation," said Hamas leadership member Basem Naim.
He said that the Hamas leadership has begun to carefully study the new proposals. According to Reuters, Hamas plans to respond soon.
