Engineers in southern China's Guangdong province have successfully completed the first-ever double-track, single-track, underwater high-speed rail tunnel.
According to the "TsA" report, the railway is almost 10 kilometers long - 9,781 meters to be exact - and is located at a depth of 68 meters.
The tunnel is planned to be used by modern trains with speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour. The facility will become the central link of the Shantou-Shanwei route, which will later be connected to another high-speed railway line heading towards the city of Zhangzhou in Fujian province, the report said.
