33 people die in Istanbul from fake alcohol poisoning
In Istanbul, 88 people have been hospitalized in the last 96 hours due to poisoning from counterfeit alcohol. According to official data, 33 patients have died among those who have been admitted to medical institutions in various districts. Of the 48 patients who are still receiving treatment, 29 are intubated in the intensive care unit in a serious condition.
Also, 4 people were discharged from hospitals after completing treatment, 1 patient refused treatment, and 2 patients left the hospital without permission.
According to the Uzbek embassy in Turkey, the number of Uzbeks who died from consuming counterfeit alcohol has reached 11. Another citizen was confirmed dead at an Istanbul morgue on January 16. This follows reports confirming the deaths of six citizens on January 14 and four on January 15 due to consumption of counterfeit alcohol.
The Turkish government is actively working to take legal action against distributors of counterfeit alcohol.
