Sherzod Juraev, who has been teaching Arabic in Bukhara since 2021, was found guilty by the Peshku District Court under Articles 94-241 and 34 (illegal religious education) of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (CAC) and sentenced to 7 days in prison. He was also fined 1 million 875 thousand soums.


Sherzod Juraev told Azon Global that he has been teaching Arabic to students based on documents established by the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and that he has not opened any "Quran courses".


For your information, Sherzod Juraev worked as a deputy imam in one of the mosques in the Bukhara region between 2021 and 2023.


In 2023, a video of her visiting the Bukhara Medical Institute to demand her niece's rights, who was being harassed for wearing a hijab, went viral on social media and sparked much discussion. She later said she was fired from her job at the mosque.
