According to the Population and Housing Department of Kyrgyzstan, more than 23,000 Russian citizens applied for Kyrgyz citizenship in 2024. This was announced by the deputy head of the department, Bekzat Ibraimov, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on January 16.

Ibraimov said that the majority of applicants are ethnic Kyrgyz from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. However, only a little over 1,000 applications have been rejected, while the rest are being considered or approved.

The Jogorku Kenesh deputies also expressed concern about the increasing number of advertisements on the Internet for the sale and quick issuance of Kyrgyz passports.
