Officers of the State Security Service and the Internal Affairs Directorate detained individuals in Tashkent, Fergana, and Namangan who were trying to illegally send citizens on Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

The State Security Service (SSS) and internal affairs bodies have taken a number of operational measures against travel companies and individuals attempting to illegally organize Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, the agency's press service reported .

In particular, during an event jointly organized by the Tashkent Department of the State Security Service and the Internal Affairs Directorate, employees of a tourism company demanded $7,000 each for sending 3 citizens to Hajj on a work visa, and $5,000 for sending 1 citizen on a tourist visa. Four individuals were detained with material evidence when $20,000 of the total $26,000 was taken in advance.

During an event in the Fergana region, an employee of a tourism company operating in the city of Margilan was caught receiving $2,400 to send 2 citizens on an Umrah pilgrimage and $15,000 to send 3 citizens on a Hajj pilgrimage.

A person born in 1999 in Namangan was caught after he gained the trust of three citizens by posting fake Hajj travel ads on social media and receiving $4,900 from each, for a total of $14,700. The head of a tourism company in Chust district was also caught after he demanded $1,350 from three citizens for their Umrah trips, for a total of $4,050, for a total of $4,000.

During an event held in collaboration with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, a resident of Tashkent, born in 1998, promised to send 5 citizens to Saudi Arabia on Hajj visas and demanded a total of $27,000. He was also arrested after receiving $13,500 in advance.

Currently, cases have been initiated in all cases under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code and investigative actions are being conducted.

The State Security Service recommended that citizens check whether the travel company has a special license issued by the Committee for Religious Affairs before going on an Umrah pilgrimage.
