At least three people were killed in a stampede after Friday prayers at the Umayyad Central Mosque in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on January 10. A child was reportedly among the dead. Many worshippers were also injured.

According to the Turkish TV channel "Aahaber", after the prayer, the crowd moved towards the doors of the mosque, causing a huge crowd to leave. The terrible traffic jam was caused by inadequate security measures at the mosque.

Such tragedies once again highlight the need to strengthen security measures in public places. An investigation into the situation at the mosque is currently underway.
