In connection with the city of Kazan being awarded the status of the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2026, the Council of Elders of Tatarstan initiated the initiative to declare Friday an official day off throughout the country. A corresponding appeal was sent to President Rustam Minnikhanov.

A passenger train traveling from Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, to Adler collided with a KAMAZ truck in the Volgograd region of Russia. The accident was caused by the truck stopping on the train track. At least 140 people were injured in the incident.
